The "Solar-Tracking" Sun Seeker

I’m tired of seeing my solar output drop off every afternoon. I want to build a sun-tracking rig using a standard linear actuator, but I live in a windy area. Does Progressive Automations have a model with a high static load rating so the wind doesn't strip the gears? Also, how do I stop the motor from burning out once it reaches the end of its travel—do I need to install my own limit switches, or are they already built-in?

For a sun-tracking rig in a windy spot you’ll definitely want an actuator with a higher static load rating so gusts don’t twist or stress the mechanism. Check the linear actuator selection https://www.progressiveautomations.com/en-eu/pages/standard-linear-actuators specs for models with higher force and duty cycle — those typically handle wind better than lighter units. Most Progressive Automations actuators already have built-in limit switches, so they automatically stop at the end of travel and you won’t burn out the motor. Just make sure your frame and mounts are rigid and consider adding extra weather protection so dirt and moisture don’t shorten the actuator’s life in your outdoor setup.
